About Us
Gwendolyn Boyd Moss is a mother of three, Justin (known as Jo Jo), Damon and Brandon. Inspired by her personal experience with her oldest son Justin, who was diagnosed with Autism at age 3 and Schizophrenia at age 14, she made a promise to educate, empower and inspire other parents of children with special needs. My Special Friendz a 5013c nonprofit organization was founded in early 2015 to open up more conversation about mental illness with children and young adults. Additionally, to provide more assistance in the mental health community, and social opportunities in which children with special needs can thrive.
Gwen’s personal journey has been one of struggle and triumph. Mainstream media TV outlets and press “Forbes”, Huffington Post Business along with many others have praised her efforts to bring more awareness and services. As a professional licensed Realtor of 18 years in Georgia, she added to her resume Reality TV personality featured as a main character on the WeTv Real Estate documentary series “Selling It In The ATL” Gwen Boyd Moss utilized this platform to further her passion and purpose to do more for the mental health community.
A motivational speaker, and Author she, relaunched the first book “My Big Brother Jo Jo & His Friend Schizophrenia” to the series “My Special Friend. Which is four book series of children’s books centered on the characteristics of children with special needs to assist their peers in understanding their developmental differences and encourage friendships. It is her desire to continue to bring awareness and inspire hope. She understands the despair that is felt when you receive any diagnosis for your child, and how this can affect everyone in direct connection. She believes that you cannot let the diagnosis, statistics and the stigma surrounding mental health be a death sentence to the hopes and dreams that you have for your child, but instead you must BUILD on the gifts that your child may have.
